Vintage 1983 Rolex GMT-Master II “Fat Lady” Ref. 16760 – 40mm Stainless Steel – Black Dial – Red & Black Coke Bezel – All Original – Early Production Dial
This 1983 Rolex GMT-Master II Ref. 16760, famously known as the “Fat Lady”, is a highly collectible timepiece and the very first GMT-Master II reference. This example remains all original, featuring an unpolished 40mm stainless steel case and its original Oyster link bracelet, preserving its factory proportions and sharp edges.
The dial is a rare early production “Oyster Perpetual” black dial, notably missing the typical "Date" designation found on most GMT-Master II models. As one of the earliest examples of the 16760, this dial variation is believed to be from the initial production run before Rolex standardized the text. The markers and hands display a gorgeous, evenly aged patina, giving the watch a warm vintage appeal. Complementing the dial is the signature red GMT hand and a date window at 3 o’clock beneath the cyclops lens.
The red and black “Coke” bezel insert showcases beautiful natural aging, adding character to this already desirable piece. Set within a bidirectional rotating bezel, this feature remains one of the most recognizable elements of the GMT-Master II lineage.
Powered by the Rolex Caliber 3085 automatic movement, this model was the first GMT-Master II to introduce an independently adjustable 24-hour hand, allowing for true dual-time functionality.
With its all-original components, a rare early production dial, and stunning vintage aesthetics, this GMT-Master II Ref. 16760 “Fat Lady” is a standout collectible, perfect for enthusiasts who appreciate the beauty of natural aging and Rolex’s horological history.
