Sell Estate Jewelry NYC
In our experience, most people selling estate jewelry have the same concern. They want to know the piece is being evaluated fairly, by someone who actually understands what they have.
At Louis Martin Jewelers, we have been buying estate jewelry in New York City for over 40 years, and every offer we make is based on real market data and decades of hands-on experience with pieces from all over the world.
Why Is It So Hard to Know What Your Estate Jewelry Is Worth?
Selling a piece you have owned, inherited, or collected is not always the simplest process.
You may not know what it is worth. You may have been quoted wildly different numbers by different buyers. You may have walked into a pawn shop, felt the pressure, and walked back out.
That is a common experience. The estate jewelry market has no standard pricing. What a piece sells for at auction, at retail, or on a resale platform are three different numbers. Without context, it is hard to know if an offer is fair.
That is where experience matters. We have been buying and selling estate jewelry long enough to know what the market is actually paying right now, not what it paid five years ago. When we make you an offer, we can show you exactly how we arrived at it.
What We Buy
We purchase estate jewelry across all eras and categories.
- Rings: Diamond engagement rings, cocktail rings, signet rings, and bands in all metals.
- Necklaces and pendants: Diamond drops, pearl strands, signed pendants, and chain necklaces.
- Bracelets: Tennis bracelets, bangles, charm bracelets, and flexible gold designs.
- Earrings: Clip-on and post styles across all periods.
- Brooches and pins: Often overlooked. Signed pieces from recognized houses can carry real value.
- Signed pieces: Tiffany, Cartier, Van Cleef, and others. We evaluate every piece on its own merits.
Not sure if your piece qualifies? Bring it in or contact us. We will give you a straight answer.
Why Sellers Come to Louis Martin
There are plenty of places to sell jewelry in New York City, here's sets us apart.
- We are direct buyers.
You deal with the people making the decision. No auction house commission. No consignment wait. No listing sitting online for months with no result. - We are honest about value.
If a piece is not worth much, we tell you. If it is worth more than you expected, we tell you that too. We would rather give you an accurate number than make an offer you later regret accepting. - We have worked in New York City for decades.
You aren't meeting a stranger from an online listing. You are walking into a store with an almost 50 year track record in this city and around the world.
Most clients leave the consultation knowing more about their piece than when they walked in. That knowledge belongs to you regardless of what you decide.
Direct Sale or Consignment
Most sellers want payment the same day. If that's you, we make a direct offer and you leave with payment when you accept.
For certain pieces likely to attract serious collector interest, consignment can result in a stronger final number. It takes longer, but for the right watch it's worth considering.
We'll help guide you in the path makes more sense for your specific piece and scenario.
How We Determine What Your Piece Is Worth
We've supported thousands of sellers in our 40+ years of business, and we'll walk you through all of this during your consultation.
- Metal content and weight: Gold, platinum, and silver are valued against live spot prices. Every piece has a baseline regardless of design.
- Stone quality: Diamonds and colored stones are assessed for cut, clarity, color, and carat weight. Chips and wear affect the number.
- Maker and signature: Signed pieces from recognized houses carry value beyond the materials. We know the difference and we explain it.
- Rarity and demand: Some pieces are actively sought right now. Others are not. We buy and sell this inventory every week.
- Condition: Original, unaltered pieces hold the most value. Any prior work done to a piece gets factored in.
How the Process Works
- Book a Free Consultation
Contact us to schedule a time, or walk in during store hours. For larger estates or multiple pieces, booking ahead gives us time to prepare. - We Evaluate the Piece
Harry Mizrahi or another one of our expert buyers examines your jewelry in person. We assess metal, stones, maker, condition, and market demand. This takes 30 to 60 minutes depending on the piece, and may be longer when evaluating multiple pieces. - We Make You an Offer
We present a clear number with a clear explanation. No pressure to accept. No obligation to sell. - You Get Paid
If you accept the offer, we handle the paperwork and complete the transaction the same day.
Appointments are preferred but not required. Walk-ins are welcome every day from 9:30 AM to 6:30 PM. For multiple pieces or a full estate, booking ahead helps us give you the time the evaluation deserves.
You don't need it. Original receipts and certificates are helpful but we evaluate the piece itself. A GIA or AGS report on a diamond does support the offer, but the absence of one does not disqualify a sale.
That's completely okay. There is no obligation. Some people come in just to understand what they have. We are happy to help either way.
Yes. If you are handling an estate and need to sell multiple pieces, we can work with you on a process that fits the situation. Contact us to discuss before coming in.
We make offers based on current market data and over 40 years of buying experience. We show our work. If you want to compare our offer elsewhere before deciding, we understand. We are confident in our numbers.
